Helen and Tien had a perfect sunny day for their wedding in San Diego, California. I was clued in in advance that there would be bubbles for this grand exit, and I knew they would definitely be a part of the finished piece.
There were some interesting creative problems to solve with this composition, as the bride is an architect and wanted to be sure to capture the gorgeous arches of the historical park venue. The groom wanted most to capture the energy of the crowd surrounding and cheering for the couple. “No poblem”, I thought, until going through the library of reference images I captured and realized that the moment the crowd stood to surround the couple, they completely blocked the architecture from the vantage point I’d established. I had to do a little compositional trickery to be able to achieve both ends, by keeping some figures seated, but rendering them with expressive flourishes that allow us to feel their movement and celebration, in spite of their seated posture.
