Thickened up the hot glue under the suckers to diffuse light more and applied the paint treatment to the paper mache porthole today. Can't wait to show you this one all done!

This is just an invitation to join me in my happy place. I made these pier pilings this week, out of cardboard tubes, drywall joint compound, some pebbles from a hiking trail, and paint. I went this morning to home Depot for the rope, and finished my day with my final touchups of the dry-brushed wood grain highlights. It's reaaaalllly fun to work in 3D when I spend most of my focus in my craft on canvases. And I'm absolutely thrilled with how these turned out.

And in oils it's even more buttery and satisfying than acrylics. Hang out with me for a few moments while I put the finishing touches on @chantelleandjoel 's wedding painting - my first one to use oils for the in-studio touch up phase. (And first one in my new studio!). 😍😍😍

We started with @_scott_mccloud 's charts of the 6 basic human emotions, and then went into drawing humans from the internet this week. I'm already chomping at the bit to get back to this one.

Because, frankly, the manipulative ploys of the "attention economy" are exhausting and bad for the human spirit. No, this video is just a chill studio painting session. STUDIO painting session!!!! Eeeeeee!!!!! You guys, having dedicated space just for work is absolutely amazing. I love the studio, I love the fresh breezes and sunset views, I love the walk there and back and coming home for lunch breaks. I love my snack trolley and my supplies shelves and my heavy duty easel I finally have space for, and my rolling desk so I can put palette and brushes right where I need them. I love my rocking nest and studio naps (to be featured in a future reel). I love my sweetheart and his electronics space here, and am looking forward to days where we'll work on the studio together. I love you folks who have been so enthusiastic and supportive while I take this scary step. Thanks so much for your patience @chantelleandjoel, while I've flipped my creative life upside down in the middle of your project... You'll have your preview photo soon! I'll post a video tour of the whole setup soon too... Just wanted to give y'all a chance to kind of hang out in the space as-it-is-used with me. It seems like there's so much collective struggling right now. There's certainly so much suffering in our world. It feels strangely difficult to share about things going really right too, but happiness shared is happiness doubled, right?

I know this post isn't for everyone. I know this post isn't a portrait of a perfect person. Ultimately we are, all of us, human and trying to get through this life together. We may also be trying to lift up those around us. I believe this person is. I believe a lot of people around me are. madame VP wrote: "My daily challenge to myself is to be part of the solution, to be a joyful warrior in the battle to come." I don't consider myself a political warrior by any stretch of the imagination, but I can make a joyful contribution through this art. It's a bold color portrait, facing into the future, built on the red, white, and blue of our American home. It's also a way you can contribute to the future you wish to see. The election is about empowering our ideals and values, and I'm taking the new leap into putting art on prints and merch, because I hear you wanting to showcase those values in this really potent time.
